I
Oh, Baby, I've been waiting for these!!!
CSA Week Three brough spinach (again), spring mix, some other unidentifiable (to me) greens, kohlrabi, snap peas and 2 big baskets of strawberries.
The strawberries are small but so very delicious and sweet. I couldn't even wait to get home from the pick up location before I was popping these in my mouth. No, I didn't wash them first. Yes, I know some of you will find that disgusting. But the sunwarmed earthy sweetness of them is EXACTLY the way I like them best. 'Our' farm doesn't use pesticides and all of that and I checked for bugs before hand. So there.
When I first signed up for the CSA, I imagined each week picking up our produce in a big wooden crate with leafy carrot fronds hanging over the edges and mounds of lettuce threatening to spill out. The name of the farm would be stamped one of the wooden slats. Too bad for me; it's a big plastic crate and large and deep enough that nothing hangs out. My last name is written on the back of an index card, taped against hot pink paper and all of that attached to the ugly black plastic. But these dear berries came in wooden baskets and make up for the lack of the big wooden farm crate. =)
