Early this summer I purchased a few tomato plants to try out in large containers on my front porch and chose a few standards--Better Boy, Early Girl, a cherry tomato plant of some sort, and also a grape tomato plant. However, when I got home and began to transplant them to their new homes I discovered that that the grape tomato I had picked up off the shelf was someone else's discarded Lemon Boy Tomato.
A yellow tomato!
I must say I was a little bit annoyed to find that I wouldn't have grape tomatoes this year but as the Lemon Boy grew and the first hard little green tomatoes began to show I began to get curious. What would a yellow tomato taste like? I've seen them on occasion at farmer's markets but I've never bought one and now, here, was a chance! The first Lemon Boy tomato seemed to ripen unusually slow but finally, finally!, it's ripe and ready to slice into tonight.
