One of my New Year's Resolutions is to be more social even if it means creating reasons to have get togethers. I can't take the sole credit for this one--it was my friend, Katie's idea--I just took it and ran with it.http://www.artfire.com/users/intentional_stones
We had a milkshake party! How silly! But it worked out very well and was lots of fun.

I found sturdy disposable (but I've washed and I'm saving them for the 2nd annual Milkshake Party) small wine glasses that worked perfectly for milkshakes. They held 5.5 ounces each. Just enough to make a mini-shake so you would come back and make many more different types instead of filling up on just one.
A little silly napkin milkshake. =)
This was only HALF of the toppings and mix-ins. Can you believe it? Friends brought fruit, nuts, pearl balls (have I got the term right? these were new to me) and hot fudge to name just a few. Ice cream flavors included: two types of chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, orange creme and banana for the bases. Three of us each made a few of the ice creams--all homemade! Yum!!
Adult mix ins!!
By asking my friends to bring a blender to share if they had one, we had about six or seven in total. My poor blender was the first and only one to fall down on the job. But--I got to try so many new blenders that night that I got the added benefit of knowing what type I want when I replace mine.
The 'how it works' part of the party was easy. Each person came in and got a glass. He or she then proceeded to pick a blender, add any mix ins they wanted and just enough ice cream and milk to make a single shake. Then they topped it off with more yummy things and added a straw. Easy! Even in my small kitchen with lots of children about it worked fairly smoothly. After your shake was prepared you enjoyed it in the living room or dining room to make room for the next shake makers.
Everyone asked everyone 'What's in yours?' Because of course, as good as yours was someone else's always looked just a little bit better. Like this one. It's double layer! Yum! Apparently Cathy was rocking the double look that night because check out her necklaces. Two! And aren't they fantastic? You can find more of her beautiful work

The children were in love with the milkshake party. Ice cream. Sweets. Honestly, who wouldn't be?
Some of us even dressed up in '50s clothes to go with the '50's dance music that was playing in the background. You can never take it too far. Never!
Tired out at the end of the night.
