Maia and I planted 100 bulbs today. Pink Hyacinth, lots of Yellow Tulips and two bags of mixed tulips called the enchanting name of Apple Blossom. I figure that's 85 bulbs for the squirrels to dig up and eat and 15 for me to see bloom in spring. We had a good time together talking about how bulbs work and accidentally digging up last year's tulips' bulbs and finding little 'baby bulbs' along side the big ones. We gently separated the big bulbs from the small bulbs and tucked them back inside the earth. I had thought this year more came up than the year before! I love flowers that come up year after year and make more; perennials are no doubt superior to annuals.
I wanted to take pictures to share with everyone but I wasn't allowed. Maia stole the camera, informed me that I would be getting my hands too dirty and that she would take the pictures. She loves to look at the pictures on the blog as much as she likes to flip through our photo albums and I promised her I'd put her pictures up--all the ones that didn't accidentally come out blurry that is!
