8th Birthday

The past week has kept me busy with birthday preparations.  I did quite a bit of sewing which I hope to share with you later this week.  It kept me too busy to have the camera in the kitchen while I was baking other things and the only thing I bothered to take a picture of was Maia's birthday cake.

This baker will NEVER be a cake decorator.  Not only am I not good at it--I don't even like cake decorating!   I will always prefer the simplest decorated baked confection to those more elaborately done.  And that is my biased and unbiased opinion and I'm sticking to it!

Busy Days Ahead

Maia's birthday is on Friday and this week has been keeping me pretty busy.  I got a little birthday sewing done today and plan on doing a little more tomorrow.  Aside from that--I've been up to my eyeballs in mending!  Times like these require chocolate cake.

In the last few days I've mended:  2 giant floor pillows-- 2 linen pillow covers-- replaced 2 buttons--ripped open, re-stuffed and resewed 1 stuffed animal-- reattached a heart collar to a stuffed dog-- patched two pairs of pants.   I've still got part of one hem of a skirt and part of the binding on a blanket to go.  I'll do that tomorrow.  Right after more cake.

Don't tell anyone mending is one of my least favorite chores.  Right after vacuuming.  Oh, and ironing.
