A couple of weeks ago, I attempted to knit a practice sock. I used yarn that was too thick and needles that were too big for socks but it was only for practice. It went well and wasn't as complicated as I had feared but it was too bulky for wearing and I didn't make that sock a partner.
Then, I got my hands on some smaller double pointed needles and some real sock yarn. And so far I'm one sock in!!
It's very much a learning experience. I'm not very good at judging sizes yet. Length of the foot was easy to do accurately by measuring the length of my foot against the length of sock foot. But the 'Adult Small' part of the pattern for the leg isn't the right size for me. It's way too big and really slouches down on my leg. The ribbing at the top helps somewhat but overall it's still too big. I'll finish the second sock still following this size but I think I'm going to try the Child Large for the next pair. I don't know enough to know what to do to make the necessary size decrease on my own. =(
Also, photographing knitting is something I don't think I'll ever get good at! Ah, well, I think I am going to put the sock aside for a little bit and cast on for a small blanket while I curl up under a non-knitted blanket. I need a bit of a break from teeny tiny needles going 'round and 'round.
