....but glad it's over!!!
I've never been a big fan of Halloween. I like the costumes. I like the Haunted Houses. But...I hate Trick or Treating. I hate both ends of it; taking the kids out (thankfully it was Rick's turn this year) and then standing there feeling silly while some stranger gives my kids candy and handing out candy and feeling like I'm not being generous enough when really I'm trying to make sure I give a few pieces to each kid and still have enough to last me the entire two hours. I don't even enjoy seeing the other kids' costumes because I'm too worried about them thinking I'm stingy with my handful of candy per kid--make sure there's a bit of chocolate with that gum and lollypop!
My family was quite excited to go out trick or treating. I don't know how I got them to sit for this picture with the fire siren going off announcing the start but somehow I did. I suspect Tristyn isn't smiling under his costume; he was really itching to get moving. Rick doesn't mind taking them out at all and he and a few other dads (I guess it was the dads' turn this year all around) walked around with the kids.
Katie and I stayed at our house talking and listening to music from the 90's on the XM station. We knew we had to listen to the 90's when I was flicking through and 'The Humpty Dance' came on. Apparently we were both on the same wavelength because we both imagined combined feeling of needing to get up and dance and how silly that would be. Especially if Rick and Levy were to walk by the window and see us doing so. Don't worry. We didn't dance but that WAS the deciding factor in leaving that particular station on.
We passed out candy, too. It seemed we didn't have as many trick or treaters this year as last or perhaps her and I just distribute candy better than the men. After all the candy collecting was completed, Rick, Levy and the kids came back to our house along with a few more friends and their kids. Since all of us family people can't dress up and go out we decided to have a um...kid and couple party. Kids all ran upstairs to play while the adults sat around the table talking eating and drinking. And listening to 90's music. It was very exciting.
Okay. Maybe not so exciting but a very nice evening nonetheless. I'll take an evening of good company and converstation over a exciting night out among strangers 9 nights out of 10.
Is my banner weirding anyone out? Anyone out there a little taken aback? If so, I'm really sorry but 300 is one of my favorite movies. You can see my previous references to the movie here and here. Lucky for me, Rick is pretty good at using photoshop for things like this. Leonidas is brandishing a French Rolling Pin!
I hope you and yours gorged yourself on candy and had a Happy Halloween!
