Two days in a row and no picture! It feels odd to even write. =S Good thing nothing too terribly exciting has occured in the last two days otherwise I'd be upset at having no pictures. I simply must remember to locate my phone charger so I can have ready access to that camera at least.
Monday--I had an appointment early in the morning that didn't take up as much time as I had planned. Since it didn't, I was able to stop at the grocery store and get the things I needed for dinner that night and also exchange my jeans. (One pair was bigger than the other and needed to be swapped to match the size of the pair that did fit well) It just so happens that Ann Taylor Loft is about 3-4 doors down from Barnes & Noble so I dropped in to get a tall, non-fat mocha and a grilled asiago cheese pretzel for lunch.
When I went to the office I got there just in time to do the mail. Yay. Always my favorite part. Not really =P It's not difficult; I just feel bad when I give someone the wrong mail. Otherwise the day was fairly quiet, though towards the end I got working on the follow-ups from the person I ended up sorta replacing. I say sorta because I'm still not doing all the things she was doing yet.
At home I went into a whirlwind of activity. We were having dinner guests, the missionaries from down the street to be exact, and I had quite a few things to do since I had been out of town during the weekend. Luckily for me, Rick had kept the house neat and tidy (as he always does) and all it wanted was for a bit of vacumming and a quick wipe down of the bathroom and coffee table. (We have a coffee table that is a wooden bear that was carved out in Colorado that Rick hauled home with him when out on a kayaking trip that is topped with glass--A huge fingerprint collector but I love it anyway) Then, I constructed a panful of lasagna--trying not to eat too much of the raw filling while doing so and not succeeding because I love ricotta (and the other 3 cheeses I put in my lasagna)--made meatballs, baked peanut butter cookies and peeled and sliced about a bajillion granny smith apples for the hot apple crisp I made for dessert. The pb cookies weren't for dinner; they were because I hate to have an empty cookie jar.
Dinner went well and we had some very nice conversation over dessert. After they left, Maia and I played Chutes & Ladders and then the four of us watched 'A Charlie Brown Christmas.' Rick printed off a great big list of what holiday family/kids shows are on this month and on what station. =)
Tuesday--Guess what??!! I actually had work all day to keep me occupied! And I didn't get it finished either which means I'll have stuff to do in between my usual things at the office. It bothers me to not finish something entirely but I did make a good dent into it and I think today I should be able to finish it up as much as it can be.
Missy picked up the things for grilled cheese sandwiches to make on our hot plate at work for lunch. We ran into a minor problem though--no one had remembered a frying pan! I ended up making them one at a time (3 in total--Rick, Missy and myself) in a saucepot. It worked but was a little awkward when it came time to turn them.
At the end of the block the office is on there is a new restaurant called Bacchus that has a coffee shop attached to it as part of the restaurant. I thought to walk down the street to pick up some coffee for Rick and I. As I walked out, I noticed on the road stopped at the redlight was a familar looking van. Then I saw the plate and Edgewood parking sticker on it and I hurried to the front of the van to say hello before the light could change to green. It was Katie who is Macey's mom. We talked for barely a minute before the light changed but long enough for me to hear that it was her son, Atticus', 2nd birthday! After the monotony of the office it was nice to see her and get to say hello even if it was quick.
I waited in the restaurant while the coffee was prepared. It is decorated in exactly the style I favor. I don't even know how I'd describe this style but I felt right at home in it. Clean, simple Victorian? Does that make sense? Non-Fussy Victorian? It's hard to explain--but basically think of a Victorian style. Ornate pieces, darker wood, lots of curves. Now take out all the froo-froo stuff and keep taking away until you get something that is very streamlined and classic and sharp. The pictures on the website don't do the restaurant justice because I think they used the flash and it exposed (is that the right photography word?) the room in a very uncomplimentary way.
The coffee was very good and they really had the presentation down to perfection. Each coffee was topped by a swirl of rich whipped cream with chocolate shavings and a mint leaf graced the very tippy top. It was difficult to walk the half of a block to the office without spilling any but I did it. There was only one bad thing about the coffee--when I got back to work I got so wrapped up in what I was doing that I forgot to drink more than 3-4 sips of it!
