We
had quite the busy weekend. On Friday I think our router broke right
before the thunderstorms. Our internet signal had been spotty the last
few days which may or may not have been because of the router--but
after Friday it hasn't worked properly at all. To get online at all I
have to direct plug in my mac laptop....and hope.
Rick
and I met some friends for dinner at Shogun Japanese Steak House in
Monroeville. We had been wanting to go there to eat for quite some
time so it was especially nice being able to go there and have dinner
with friends.
Saturday
was full--Maia had dance rehearsal for her recital that is next
Saturday. This meant she had to have ALL of the pieces on her costume
on and her hair done properly for class. Not something that is very
fun to do early in the morning, but we managed well enough. Her
rehearsal went well and we had everything just right when the teacher
came to talk to everyone about how they had dressed for the rehearsal.
The
kids spent the rest of Saturday and Sunday with a relative. After they
were picked up, Rick and I loaded up our kayaks on his car and headed
out to Apollo where we met Mark and Jen. They had rented a canoe and
we all took a 10 mile trip down the Kiskiminetas River.
It
was downstream and completely flatwater, but after not paddling for
quite a while I was very relieved to be able to concentrate on building
my paddling skills back up and not having to worry about whitewater and
catching eddys. It was about a 3 1/2 hour trip. My shoulders were
tired. (And really sore the next day!)
Afterwards,
we went back to Mark and Jen's place where we chatted over mojitos made
with basil--yum!-- and then Jen treated us to a delicious dinner she
had made. She was even kind enough to give us some of the leftovers to
take home.
We didn't get back very late but I was exhausted and fell asleep only minutes after laying down to watch television with Rick.
