Today,
rick took our brother in law nate kayaking at ohio pyle. i elected not
to kayak and rick asked if i wanted to come along with the kids. the
kids and i thought it was a great idea, and we got up early with him
(me at 5:30, the kids at 6) this morning. a little before 8 rick and
nate put on the river and we watched them go. afterwards, we drove the
car to the take-out and then took a small hike into the woods.
we
had picnic breakfast at the edge of some trees and then the kids spent
a long time playing in the woods. it was really nice; we talked about
fairies and gnomes and other creatures. the kids were fascinated when
i told them about gnomes (my own stories) and spent most of the time
constructing things for the gnome that lived in this tree:
here
they are peering into the gnome home very very carefully to see if they
can see the gnome making his breakfast. they didn't see him and
thought that perhaps he had a false front up just inside his doorway to
prevent nosy children from peeping at him.
they
spent quite a bit of time talking about the gnome and how you can tell
how old he is. (how long and white his beard is, or how long and white
a girl gnome's braid is) then they discussed if he had pets and since
they were certain he did they built a little house for his pet.
you can see they even made a little bed out of grass!
